Arnau Tenas has firmly responded to those who viewed his move to RCD Mallorca as a step back in his career. The 25-year-old goalkeeper arrived on loan this summer and has become a defensive pillar for the team, which sits fifth in the Segunda División with 14 points.
His performance speaks for itself. In his eight appearances for the vermilion shirt, Tenas has kept six clean sheets and conceded only three goals. These numbers are vital for the promotion aspirations of Javier Aguirre's side, which is seven points behind the leader, Eibar.
The personal decision
The goalkeeper explained his perspective in a recent interview. "There are people who said to me: 'Wow, what are you doing going there?'. And I say: 'What's the problem?" stated Tenas. For the keeper, the choice was clear from the start, seeking minutes and a project where he could feel important after his spells at Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Villarreal.
Trust and challenge
Tenas elaborated on the external perception of his move. "People have a lot of prejudices in the football world. They say 'you've taken a step back'... That might be for you." he declared. The player highlighted the good treatment from the club and, above all, the full trust given to him by the manager, Javier Aguirre, key factors in his quick adaptation.
With a recent record of two wins, two draws, and one loss in the last five matchdays, Mallorca faces its next challenge with ambition. This Saturday they host UD Las Palmas, eleventh in the table, at Son Moix. A win could bring them even closer to the automatic promotion spots. Fans can check the full schedule on our fixtures page and the usual lineup in the squad section. The club's objective, a return to the top flight, seems more attainable with a defence as solid as the one built by Arnau Tenas.
