RCD Mallorca have signed winger Antoniu Roca as their sixth signing for the new La Liga season. The Catalan joins on loan from RCD Espanyol until June 2027 with a non-obligatory buy option worth two million euros that the Balearic club can trigger at the end of the loan spell.
Who is Antoniu Roca and why has he joined Mallorca?
Born in Barcelona on 5 September 2002, Antoniu Roca has made 39 top-flight appearances for Espanyol across the past two seasons. The 23-year-old leaves behind a campaign with limited game time at the Perico outfit and arrives at Son Moix seeking regular football under head coach Luis García Fernández. García, who was already in charge when Roca debuted professionally by replacing Pere Milla in a Segunda División match against Levante UD on 8 September 2023, knows the player well.
Mallorca hope the winger can add attacking imbalance and minutes to a side that finished 18th in La Liga last season with 42 points, 52 adrift of league leaders Barcelona. The club enters the new campaign aiming to secure survival and improve on the 47 goals scored and 57 conceded (goal difference of -10) recorded in 2024-25.
How is Roca arriving and what does he bring?
Antoniu Roca joins Mallorca after seeing his minutes dwindle at Espanyol last term, where he featured in only 19 league games without finding the net. The winger, who made his top-flight debut for Espanyol on 19 August 2024 against Real Valladolid, now arrives at the club that will be his first opponent in the new season. His move is tied to head coach Luis García, who already knew him from their time together at Espanyol and handed him his professional bow.
Mallorca are banking on Roca’s ability to unbalance defences out wide and create numerical overloads. The club will assess his performances during the loan spell before deciding whether to trigger the two-million-euro buy option. The deal also includes a sell-on clause that would allow Espanyol to reacquire the player if Mallorca opt against exercising their right.
What’s next for Mallorca and Antoniu Roca?
The red-and-black side begin pre-season with Roca among their headline arrivals. The winger will chase minutes and influence as the club targets a better 18th-place finish from last season and avoids the relegation playoffs.
Roca’s arrival follows Àlex Sala’s signing and bolsters an attack that Mallorca hope will be more lethal than last term, when they scored only 47 goals in 38 games. Under Luis García, the club is aiming for a step up in a league where the gap between survival and relegation is shrinking by the year.
Mallorca open their new season on 17 August 2026 against Real Valladolid, the same side Antoniu Roca faced in his top-flight debut two seasons ago.
