Johan Mojica has left RCD Mallorca to sign for Getafe. The transfer of the Colombian full-back was made official on Thursday, August 13 with the Madrid-based club paying a fee close to 500,000 euros.
Mallorca aimed to recoup part of the investment made when they paid Villarreal 1.5 million euros for the player two seasons ago. Mojica, 34, was a regular starter under both Jagoba Arrasate and Martín Demichelis, playing 71 total games and scoring one goal. His departure leaves a gap in defence that the club must address.
The player prioritized staying in a top-level league to maintain his chances with the Colombian national team. Several clubs, including Brazilian side Santos, showed interest during the transfer window but did not submit a firm offer. Mojica considered it essential to remain in a demanding competition ahead of upcoming international call-ups, which led him to accept Getafe's proposal. This will be the eighth club of his career in Spain, after spells at Rayo Vallecano, Valladolid, Girona, Elche, Villarreal and Osasuna before his time at Son Moix.
Mallorca's sporting management now faces an important decision at left-back. With Mojica's exit, the competition for Toni Lato is reduced. Luis Orejuela is the internal option, but the club could look for a reinforcement in the market. The team, currently fifth in the Segunda División standings, has a squad with an average age of 26.8 years.
Manager Luis García had already hinted at the possible departure earlier that same morning. "You know he hasn't been in training," García said. "He is pending a series of things and it's possible there could be an exit."
The operation provides funds for Mallorca's coffers in a summer of tight movements. The club recovers roughly a third of its original investment in the defender. This income could be used to strengthen other areas of the team ahead of upcoming fixtures, which include an away match against Levante, as seen on the fixtures schedule.
Mallorca's current squad has a total market valuation exceeding 40 million euros, according to the latest data. Mojica brought international experience, with over 30 caps for Colombia, but his performance was inconsistent during his stay on the island. His departure closes one chapter and opens another for the club's sporting planning.
