RCD Mallorca goalkeeper Iván 'Pichu' Cuéllar was injured on Monday after a structure collapsed at the club's training ground. The Asturian player, who had just finished training, was struck on the head by part of the dining room decor, sustaining a significant injury.

The club treated the shot-stopper on-site before transferring him to a hospital. In a statement, RCD Mallorca confirmed the player "will remain under observation for the next 24 hours". The incident, caused by the collapse of "part of the room's decoration", has raised immediate concerns about safety conditions at the facility.

The setback comes at a sensitive time for the team's rhythm. Mallorca, sixth in the Segunda División with 13 points from seven games, face a key match away to fifth-placed Girona this Friday. The team is on a run of three wins, one draw and one defeat in their last five outings, including the loss to Almería last Saturday. The absence of the experienced Cuéllar, even if temporary, is an unexpected complication in the preparation for a direct clash in the promotion race. The club has not yet offered a prognosis on the goalkeeper's recovery time.
