Mallorca defeated Sabadell 2-0 in LaLiga HyperMotion Matchday 5 with a brace from Adrián Fuentes in the 10th and 23rd minutes. The match took place at Son Moix and was broadcast on LALIGA TV Hypermotion, GOL, IB3 and CAYO TV. Arnau Tenas assisted the opening goal with a pass from his own area and made five key saves, including a key stop in the 90th minute to deny Fuentes a hat-trick. The Mallorca goalkeeper kept a clean sheet and was vital to the outcome.
The home side started brightly, taking control from the first whistle. Adrián Liso and Álex Sala linked well on the flanks, while Darder and Morlanes balanced midfield. In the 10th minute, Tenas launched a long ball that Fuentes controlled and finished precisely to open the scoring. Thirteen minutes later, after a high press, Fuentes received the ball in the box and struck a low crossbeat to make it 2-0.
Sabadell, under Ferran Costa, struggled to break down a well-organised Mallorca defence. Raíllo and Valjent were tasked with marking Nicholas Gioacchini, who had scored three of Sabadell’s four goals that season. The Sabadell coach said after the match: "Sabadell have not won a league match in Mallorca since 1965." Óscar Sanz received the first yellow card of the game in the 27th minute for a reckless challenge.
Mallorca dominated possession with 53% and completed an average of 468 passes, compared to Sabadell’s 38% and 292 passes. Set pieces were limited, although Mallorca conceded a dangerous free kick in the 32nd minute that resulted in a yellow for Morlanes. Corners were evenly shared: one each in the first half and another apiece in the second.
At halftime, Costa made four changes, bringing on Gonzalo Ávila, Eneko Aguilar, Javi López-Pinto and Catalá in an attempt to energise his side. López-Pinto had a clear chance in the 56th minute, but his shot went narrowly wide. Later, Álex Sala tried his luck from outside the box in the 75th, but Fuoli saved his effort. Catalá also had a header in the 78th, but sent the ball over the bar.
Mallorca made a substitution in the 75th minute, replacing Álex Sala to add freshness to the attack. The home side continued to push for a third goal, but Sabadell’s defence held firm. In the 90th minute, Fuentes had a clear chance to complete his hat-trick, but Tenas made a superb save to keep it out. Two minutes of added time were played, and the match ended at 92’ with the score unchanged.
With this win, Mallorca reach seven points from four games and sit 12th in the LaLiga HyperMotion table. The team have scored five goals and conceded just two this season, showing balance at both ends of the pitch. Their next fixture is away to Real Sociedad II on September 19, a side currently sixth in the table, at Anoeta.
Mundo Deportivo reported: "The forward decided it with two goals and came close to a hat-trick in the final stages, while the goalkeeper kept a clean sheet with several meritorious interventions." Mallorca fans celebrated in the stands at Son Moix a solid performance that builds confidence ahead of the coming challenges.
