Mallorca held to 0-0 dran at Eldense, misses penalty

RCD Mallorca needed a win to push toward the top of the table, but Luis García's side ran into a well organised Eldense and settled for a scoreless draw (0-0) that felt like a missed chance given the openings created in Elda.

Manu Morlanes won a penalty in the final minutes of the first half, a clear opportunity to put the visitors ahead before the break. Alex Sala stepped up to take it, but his shot struck the woodwork, leaving Mallorca without reward despite their control of the game.

How the draw unfolded

Luis García named a lineup similar to the one that beat AD Ceuta FC, with the only change being Sergi Darder in place of Pablo Torre. In the first half, Adrián Fuentes, Zito Luvumbo and Darder himself created several dangerous chances against an Eldense side that looked to hit back on the counter-attack and from set pieces. Arnau Tenas had to work hard to clear a corner and keep a clean sheet.

After the break, Mallorca kept the initiative. Eldense goalkeeper Ramón Vila produced good saves to deny Fuentes and Josep Cerda, keeping the scoreline unchanged. Luis García turned to his bench to increase the pressure, bringing on Adrián Liso, Abou Soumahoro, Pablo Torre, Adam Buksa and debutant Guille Fernández, though none of them found the breakthrough that would have secured all three points. Eldense also had their moments on the counter and from set-piece situations.

The point leaves Mallorca in 12th place in Segunda División, with 7 points from four games (two wins, one draw and one defeat) and a goal difference of plus three, having scored 5 and conceded 2. The club sits 6 points behind leaders Castellón and heads into the international break having let a chance slip against a direct rival.
